The Azores are proud to be home to around 188,000 breeding pairs of cagarros, representing an impressive 75% of the world's C. borealis population, which can be seen nesting in every corner of the Azores archipelago, from the main islands to the isolated islets.
The Cagarro is a very dear figure in the archipelago, and one of the reasons is its unique “singing”. These birds are known for their loud and distinct call, which echoes throughout the night, so get ready for a symphony of voices from nature during your stay - it's an unforgettable serenade!
Despite their agile flight, the cagarros can be a bit clumsy when they land. In addition, strong lights can confuse them, leaving them vulnerable. We ask you to be careful during night tours to help us protect these charming friends.
